New QuickPwn for 2.0.2 [Windows] out PLUS WinPwn news!

All those Windows users waiting to upgrade to 2.0.2 can now do it as DevTeam has released the new QuickPwn (just GUI version).

This update also adds the capability to add installer and custom boot logos.

This version is still in beta stages, so try at your own risk. Also, there is still no update on the 3G unlocking but the unlocked 2G iPhones will remain unlocked.

The steps to follow are:
  1. Upgrade your iPhone to 2.0.2 with iTunes.
  2. Download the new QuickPwn. (Link at end of the post)
  3. Run QuickPwn and follow on-screen instructions and your phone will be jailbroken in a few minutes with Custom Boot Logos, Installer and Cydia installed!
Also, 3G users are not recommended to update till a new Pwnage Tool is out so they can disable baseband update.

A mac version with GUI is still in works and the new PwnageTool is said to have some more new tweaks. Again, with the new WinPwn and PwnageTool around the corner, it is recommended for the iPhone 3G users to wait.

Till then, here are a few screenshots and details of the upcoming version of WinPwn.

Quote:
Features
  • QuickPwn support (2.0/2.0.1/2.0.2)
  • DFU helper
  • Automatic updater (yay no more downloading new installers)
  • Plus much more....

QuickPwn for 2.0.2 [Windows]

The Devs are working on putting together a OS X version of QuickPwn with a pretty GUI which should be released sometime as well as tweaking PwnageTool for their next update which will also occur sometime.

Remember if you want to upgrade without updating your baseband wait until the next version of PwnageTool is available to create a custom ispw.

So I've searched all over but cant find the answer to my questions:

1) I have customized my iphone with themes and batterys e.t.c. Will I lose all of these when I quickpwn?

2)I have hid some apps using poof and have heard that they will still be hidden when you quickpwn and that you can't get them back. Is this true?

3) I have also heard that using a jailbroken backup will resort into a buggy/ unusable firmware. Would there even be any reason in restoring from a backup once your jailbroken?

4) Can I go from 2.0.1 (jailbroken) to 2.0.2 (jailbroken)? I have heard that you have to upgrade to 2.0.2 (unjailbroken) before you jailbreak 2.0.2

The bold is correct you will lose everything you have customized and have to re-do it.

@ #2 I have no idea
@ #3 I've heard that but haven't had any major issues -- or maybe i have had issues and blamed them on something else

2.0.2 seems more glitchy to me than 2.0.1, and 2.0.1 sucked also.

A Couple of Interesting Things With 2.0.2 Upgrade

Equipment: Iphone 3G 16GB Black
Previous Firmware: 2.0.1 Jailbroken with WinPWN
Current Firmware: 2.0.2 Jailbroken with QuickPWN

Method:
1 - Upgrade to 2.0.2 using iTunes
2 - Jailbreak using QuickPWN

I assumed that upgrading to 2.0.2 using iTunes would delete all of the custom software from my phone. - This didn't happen, exactly.

The /private/var/stash folder was not deleted, however, when I started installing things, duplicate folders were created e.g. I had Themes.yaZge and Themes.ypk5CD, same thing for Applications and all of my other stash folders. Also, when I installed NES, I did not have to re-upload my games. I still had to reinstall stuff or move it from the old Applications folder to the new one, but everything remained on the phone, which was not true in the past.
If QuickPWN could have taken advantage of this and not duplicated the folders, I wouldn't have had to reinstall anything....
