Its safe to go on mate, Dont worry bout it... what you are doing is updating ur FW to the latest version, and then activating it again so you can use optus, its very easy, I have done it loads of times on my fone and my wifes.

Any joy there mate??

Hi again, still havent done it - but dont give up on me!!!! i think im going to do it now, just wanted to check whether you recommend that i tick any of the boxes here at this section of liberty x:
7. If you wish to install other options, or add other programs by using a special payload file, click on the Apps tab. The Cydia +BSD Subsystem will install the Cydia package manager (see online help for more info). There are also options for recommended apps and OpenSSH. To use your own payloads, check the box for Select your own payload, and browse to find your custom payload file.

it all looks a bit confusing, i did a quick search and it seems like its stuff to do with allowing you to install more applications?? i dont think i'll be wanting to do that though, I just want standard stuff on it i think.. do you think i should say yes to any of these options??

Hi mate,

Have you done it yet??
I wouldnt worry to much about them, installing bsd Subsystem you can do via Installer as with Cydia and most of the others that are in those tick boxes. Installer will be automaticly installed for you when you run iLberty. also all the above can be installed after you run liberty.

NONE of those mate, it should be exactly like this, Iphone 1,1_1.1.4_4A102 Restore.ipsw

with a picture of like a lego cube with music logo on 1 side and a ipod on the other. search your computer for 1.1.4, see what come up.

No no, sometime when you download the file, it saves as a .zip file. Make sure the extension is .ispw. Don't unzip it first, as soon as the download is finished then just change the extension to .ispw.

as u can tell im being ridiculously cautious.. but just wanted to give you more background info to double check the above recommendations still apply..

given that:
* I purchased a iphone 1.1.2 in the states - its been 'jailbreaked' and unlocked (with problems now - cant call or sms) This was hooked up to itunes 7.6.2 on mac OSx
* I dont know what method my friend used to unlock it.

will any of these things affect your recommendations or is still safe to proceed?
None of them shell affect your fresh restore and/or jailbreak.
Your phone will be back at it's stock state at version 1.1.4, then you just jailbreak, activate and unlock your iPhone using iLiberty. It will then work on ANY network in Australia and anywhere.

Trust us man. Take the plunge. There's not much that can go wrong. It's all tested and there is a 99.999999999999999999999999% success rate.
You have to take a risk in the modding world. I have many-a-time. And I have stressed my nuts off. But thanks to the great people at this forum, there is always help at hand, and almost any issue can be fixed.

You need to make mistakes to learn from them. Fortunately for you, at this stage of the jailbreaking procedure, many other have for you making it as safe as it is today!

Read my above post...

Ok, if this is becoming to difficult, just put your iPhone into restore mode and hit restore in iTunes, without holding the option/shift key.
It will restore to 1.1.4 automatically and you should be able to jailbreak/unlock/activate without a problem...

heheh yeah im ready to now! but i just cant get hold of this file! : )

When it dowloads it automatically unzips it without me doing anything.. then it turns into a folder called iPhone1,1_1

Ive attached screen grab.. the zip files you see arent available as i trashed the related folders. (it then reverts to displaying as a zip file again in DL's even tho the file isnt there)
